What to know | Acne Studios revisits Hussein Chalayan’s early-2000s archive
The key details: Twelve pieces reinterpret denim, jersey and leather through references from 2001–2003. A 1,000-copy Reference book accompanies the collaboration.
Acne Studios collaborates with Hussein Chalayan to launch 12 items, taking materials from the designer's three collections from the early 2000s and reworking denim, knit and leather. The series has been sold at the Acne Studios Aoyama store in Japan and the brand's online store. A limited edition book "Reference: Hussein Chalayan" has also been launched simultaneously, which puts wearable products and readable design information together.

Three archival collections, how to get into current clothing?
Cooperation refers to Ventriloquy in 2001, Medea in 2002 and Manifest Destiny in 2003. These years are not the release years of the new series, but the archival nodes for this design review. When looking at the merchandise, you can first notice how splicing, layering and optical illusions are transferred to existing Acne Studios items.

Among them, the spliced jeans use the brand's 1996 and 2009 silhouettes, and the price in Japan is 169,400 yen; the spliced denim skirt is 204,600 yen. These numbers are the name of the pants type and product price. 1996 and 2009 should not be directly interpreted as indicating that the clothes themselves are vintage items made in that year.
Denim, knitted and Camero bags each have different treatments
The denim mini dress borrows the layered structure of Manifest Destiny. The price in Japan is 204,600 yen; the denim vest is 157,300 yen. There are also python print jeans priced at 146,300 yen that are processed with an optical illusion to make the material appear different from the actual fabric. The
series also includes knitted fabric vests, mini dresses and T-shirts, priced in Japan at 59,400, 118,800 and 68,200 yen respectively. The Camero bag is presented with optical illusion leather splicing and is priced at 500,500 yen. The printing effect is not equivalent to the use of real python skin. When reading the product, you should separate the image name and material composition.
What is included in the "Reference" book?
"Reference: Hussein Chalayan" is edited and supervised by curator and editor Charlene Prempeh. It includes archival illustrations, photos and texts. It is limited to 1,000 copies and is priced at 15,400 yen in Japan. Books offer another way to understand the collaboration: look at the design materials first, then return to the current garments, tracking which forms were retained or rearranged.

If you are mainly interested in the history and creative process of clothing, books and ready-to-wear can be selected separately; purchasing books should not be considered a package that requires purchasing clothing at the same time. Actual content, size and inventory may vary depending on brandReference product pageconfirmed.

The focus of co-signing is how archives are reused
Rather than just juxtaposing two icons, this collaboration transforms a specific historical series into new merchandise. For ordinary wearers, whether the splicing lines, prints and layering can be connected to the existing wardrobe is the starting point for actual selection; for those who study design, the year and series name provide clues to continue to check.

Japan’s selling prices and channels do not mean that they are exactly the same in other markets. If you want to place an order, you still need to confirm the material, layout and delivery conditions one by one. In particular, the optical illusion design can easily make people misjudge the surface structure based on photos. Only by looking at the product specifications and file background together can you better understand the significance of this revisit.
