What to know | Craig McDean Solo Exhibition "750 Super Sport" Opens in Tokyo, Capturing Ducati's Mechanical Beauty

UNDER R TOKYO, together with Ron Herman, has announced that British fashion photographer Craig McDean will hold a solo exhibition titled "750 Super Sport" in Tokyo from October 23 to November 6, at 2-6-3 Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. The exhibition marks a departure from McDean's usual fashion photography, instead turning his lens toward a classic model from Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati.

Who is the photographer?

Craig McDean, now based in New York, rose to prominence in the early 1990s through work published in magazines such as i-D and The Face, and went on to become one of the most iconic figures in fashion photography, shooting advertising and editorial images for brands including CHANEL, Jil Sander, and Calvin Klein. This exhibition instead shifts focus to the industrial design and photographic presentation of a motorcycle.

Which motorcycle is the exhibition's focus?

The core of the exhibition is the Ducati 750 Supersport Green Frame. This model was developed under the direction of Ducati's chief designer Fabio Taglioni, and its 750cc L-twin racing version made its debut at the 1972 Imola 200 race, taking first and second place and cementing its status on the racetrack. The subsequent road-going Green Frame version was produced in a run of only 401 units, forming the historical backdrop for this photography project. The 1974 model featured a solo seat, open exhaust, triple-disc brakes, and a Desmodromic valve system, embodying the era's dedication to performance and hand-built craftsmanship. McDean's photographs capture the motorcycle's sculptural form and engineering details, and the project will be accompanied by a photo book of the same name.

What collaborative items are available?

To extend the exhibition beyond the gallery, UNDER R has released a collaborative apparel collection in black and white. The short-sleeve T-shirt features a motorcycle image shot by McDean on the front, with the words "750 Super Sport" printed on the back; the long-sleeve version uses a bird's-eye view image of the motorcycle, paired with text and sleeve graphics. The short-sleeve shirt is priced at ¥8,800, while the long-sleeve shirt is priced at ¥12,100. It has not yet been announced whether the apparel's release date will coincide with the exhibition, nor has information been provided regarding the photo book's price, sales channels, or exhibition admission details.
