Warner Bros. shared the latest updates on "Dune: Part Three" with director Denis Villeneuve, who also discussed in an interview with Empire how his upcoming James Bond film became his way of breaking free from the sci-fi franchise.
Villeneuve said his decision to return to Arrakis wasn't driven by nostalgia or longing, but by a sense of fatigue with the subject matter—he wanted to push himself to approach the material with rigor and avoid complacency. He mentioned that after finishing the final chapter, he needed a powerful force to pull him away from Arrakis, so when he was offered the chance to direct the next Bond film, he said yes right away, seeing it as exactly the shift he needed.
Dune: Part Three is scheduled to open in theaters on December 18, 2026.
