The October 24 event has ended. AURALEE collaboration garments, FREITAG truck tarps and Swedish craft reveal different ways to curate a store.

Looking back at Dover Ginza Open House: shells, tarps and objects

Dover Street Market Ginza held its one-day Open House on October 24; it has now ended. Forty-one designers and artists joined clothing, objects, installations and encounters across the store. The interesting question is how a shop shows products alongside processes.

For people who enjoy select shops, photographs can suggest ways to read materials and displays. This retrospective considers shells, stones, used tarp and traditional craft. It does not present yesterday’s event as something to attend today or presume remaining stock.

Natural objects become garment details

The AURALEE collaboration with Sweden’s Salon C. Lundman adds shells and stones to items including knitted hats and coats. In display photographs, they give familiar textiles a different weight and sheen, drawing attention from outline towards individual junctions.

One styling direction is to let a single garment carry the detail while other accessories recede. This is not advice to attach hard objects to any coat: fixing, weight and cleaning matter, and photographs alone cannot establish durability or touch.

FREITAG makes material selection participatory

FREITAG suspended a long truck tarp sewn into bag forms, bringing selection and cutting into the shopping process, with event lettering also printed. Existing blocks of colour, words and wear give each chosen area a different appearance.

Look beyond the logo: which area contains text, which is blank, and where will it fall on a bag? This describes the October 24 event, not an everyday customisation service. Any repeat requires a separate announcement.

Objects and installations change the pace

OUR LEGACY brought Swedish antiques and traditional craft collected by its team. Small objects in glass cabinets, furniture and garments offer different scales, shifting attention from quick brand recognition to material, a sense of age and use.

A ground-floor installation responded to COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS spring/summer 2027, with flags extending through multiple floors. Layering these contents is a useful curatorial idea to revisit; any later Ginza itinerary still needs current store information.
