Two bands that can each sell out stadiums on their own are about to share the same stage in one night — with one of them taking the opening slot. Foo Fighters will open for AC/DC's "Power Up" world tour stop in St Louis on September 8, after original opener The Pretty Reckless became unable to perform that night. It marks the only date on the "Power Up" tour so far without The Pretty Reckless.
AC/DC's official social media announced the news, calling it a rare night bringing together "some of the heaviest hitting live bands of two generations." For Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, the slot means far more than a last-minute favor. In a lengthy post on the band's official account, he recalled watching AC/DC's 1980 concert film "Let There Be Rock" at age 11, writing, "I sat on the edge of my seat the entire time, wondering how five guys could generate that much intensity onstage with nothing but their instruments."
That viewing experience became his personal benchmark for every performance since. Grohl wrote that if a drummer doesn't need to swap out a snare head mid-set, they're not hitting hard enough; if a singer doesn't leave the stage drenched in sweat, they haven't given the audience what they deserve. It's also why he describes his own stage presence as sprinting back and forth soaked in sweat, "playing my guitar until it's in pieces."
"This is truly a dream come true," he wrote. "And if you want blood, you got it. Let there be fucking rock, St Louis." The two bands have never toured together before; their only prior crossover came at the 2021 VAX LIVE benefit concert, when AC/DC's Brian Johnson joined Foo Fighters as a special guest for a rendition of "Back In Black."
Foo Fighters are currently in the middle of their own "Take Cover" North American tour, with Queens Of The Stone Age opening, including a Los Angeles show on August 22 and a Rock In Rio festival date on September 4. After the AC/DC support slot, they'll return to their own tour schedule, heading to North Dakota, California, Kentucky, and Nevada, before wrapping up the year with Australian dates. On AC/DC's side, the "Power Up" tour continues in Atlanta on August 27, then moves on to Texas, Indiana, and New Jersey — with The Pretty Reckless back as the opener for every date besides St Louis.
