Hackers Leak *GTA 6* Gameplay Footage, Take-Two Subpoenas Microsoft and Discord to Track Down Source

A hacker group calling itself CyberLeek claims to be sitting on gameplay footage from a playable build of *Grand Theft Auto 6* — and that's the messiest part of this whole saga. Rather than stay quiet, parent company Take-Two Interactive and developer Rockstar Games are taking the fight straight to federal court.

According to court filings, Take-Two and Rockstar Games have petitioned the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for subpoenas targeting Microsoft and Discord, demanding both companies turn over information that could identify the infringer. The DMCA-based requests target the leaked copyrighted material, including video footage, art assets, dialogue, and other creative elements.

Court documents state that the *GTA 6* material leaked by CyberLeek was uploaded to GitHub, the developer platform owned by Microsoft, while a significant amount of the infringing media has been circulating across multiple Discord servers. Discord has said it will comply with valid DMCA subpoenas, while Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet said Microsoft is working closely with Take-Two and Rockstar Games to help protect their intellectual property.

The leak hasn't thrown a wrench into the game's launch plans. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said back in August's earnings call that pre-order momentum has been "exceptionally strong." On top of that, Netflix is set to debut an exclusive "extended look" trailer ahead of the game's release — and before the footage hits any other public platform.

*Grand Theft Auto 6* is confirmed to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, 2026, with Netflix's exclusive extended look trailer set to premiere first on August 27.
