The documentary "Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger" had its Venice Film Festival premiere with both Noel and Liam Gallagher in attendance, the first time the pair has appeared together off-stage since news of the 2024 reunion tour broke.
After an eight-minute standing ovation, Noel Gallagher wiped his eyes while Liam Gallagher glanced at his watch and mouthed the words "Should we fuck off?" That's the scene that unfolded at the Venice Film Festival on September 5th, at the world premiere of "Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger" — marking the first time the Gallagher brothers have appeared together in public since Oasis broke up in 2009, aside from their on-stage performances during the "Live '25" reunion tour.
The pair arrived by boat and walked the red carpet side by side, having also attended the photo call earlier. The documentary chronicles Oasis's 2024 reunion announcement and the massive tour that followed, produced by "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace (of "Meet Me In The Bathroom" fame). It screened in the Venice Film Festival's Out of Competition – Non Fiction section.
But before the spotlight even faded, the two brothers slipped out early, skipping the press conference that followed and leaving Knight, Southern, and Lovelace to face reporters alone. When asked on the spot why the Gallagher brothers weren't there, Lovelace replied, "They were just here for the photo call, so they did come," without elaborating further. According to Variety, reporters and fans at the scene apparently hadn't realized the brothers were never scheduled to appear at the press conference in the first place.
NME gave the documentary four and a half stars, calling it "handled brilliantly" and writing: "The band's impact has never been clearer than across these two hours — and, as Liam puts it towards the end, 'Oasis saves' — reclaiming the narrative and recapturing one of the most sensational, unlikely tours of modern times." In interview footage featured in the film, Noel admitted before the opening show in Cardiff: "I genuinely can't picture myself on stage with Liam. I just can't imagine it." Liam, meanwhile, said: "The way it ended back then... it just didn't make sense."
"Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger" will get a limited theatrical release worldwide starting September 9th, including IMAX screenings, before landing on Disney+. In the US, it will simultaneously stream on Hulu and Disney+, with an exact date to be announced later in 2026. The UK premiere is set for September 7th at Cineworld Leicester Square in London.
