Who's "Son-John Johnson" on Phoebe Bridgers' New Album Credits, Anyway

If a credits list has "Son-John Johnson" written next to it, most people would probably do a double take — this name that's never appeared before shows up in the Vocals field on two songs, and the voice sounds oddly similar to Geese frontman Cameron Winter. When Pitchfork put together the full credits for Phoebe Bridgers' third solo album "Lost Weekend," they made a point of calling out this detail too. The album hasn't officially confirmed anything — the credits just say "Son-John Johnson," like an easter egg left for listeners to figure out on their own.

"Lost Weekend" is Bridgers' first solo album since 2020's "Punisher," and marks her first full-length solo project since releasing the single "Sidelines" in 2022. The album has 16 tracks total — aside from the lead single "Lost Boys," the other 15 songs are carried by a long list of names. Jack Antonoff is involved in production, synths, and drum programming on nearly every track; Alex G takes on both producer and musician roles, leaving his mark on guitar, synths, and voice memos; Blake Mills, Conor Oberst, Christian Lee Hutson, and Bo Burnham each show up in arrangement, songwriting, or performance credits.

The backing vocal lineup is also worth a closer look. Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus join Bridgers on lead vocals for "Lost Boys" and "Haunted," echoing the chemistry the three shared in boygenius. Caroline Shaw sings backup on nearly the entire album while also playing viola. Conor Oberst only plays harmonica on "I Can't Wait" — no writing, no vocals — yet his presence somehow feels even more distinct.

The most personal detail comes from family. Bridgers' brother Jackson Bridgers is listed under Vocals on "Kill Me," while her pug Maxine gets a vocal credit alongside Caroline Shaw on the album's closing track, "Lost Weekend (Reprise)" — probably the only collaborator on the entire list who won't be collecting any royalties.

Another deeply buried detail is a sample: the title track "Lost Weekend" uses a snippet from composer Paul Lansky's piece "Notjustmoreidlechatter." Compared to the folk-tinged backbone built from layers of guitar, strings, and synths across the rest of the album, it's the one moment where a piece of electronic music history gets directly woven into a song.

The album's pre-release promo run has been quieter than most artists' — pop-up shows, a phone-free charity concert at Madison Square Garden, and a series of listening sessions held at planetariums. Next year she'll head out on a North America and Europe tour, with Alex G opening the North American dates and former Black Country, New Road frontman Isaac Wood joining for the European leg.
