According to an October 18, 2026 report by Liberty Times' iStyle fashion and beauty channel, Taiwanese eco-cleaning brand picupi partnered with convenience store chain FamilyMart to redesign waste from the retail and aquaculture industries into a cleaning product supply chain. The cross-industry project received Japan's 2026 Good Design Award.
The report noted that the brand turns golden clam shells, previously discarded by Hualien's Lichuan fish farm, into a patented EcoCal shell calcium ingredient that, according to the brand, replaces conventional preservatives and offers antibacterial properties. Packaging is sourced from FamilyMart's Let's Café commercial-use milk bottles, processed by recycling facilities into bottles made from 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic. The brand also replaced direct printing with a removable recycled paper sleeve and soy-based ink to reduce material-mixing issues during recycling.
Per figures released by the brand, as of the end of August this year, the project had used about 2,062 kilograms of recycled plastic to produce 36,182 units of cleaning product packaging. The brand estimates this cuts material carbon emissions by roughly 75% compared with virgin plastic, with cumulative carbon reduction of about 3.43 metric tons. The product line—covering laundry stain removal, dishware cleaning, and other uses, five items in total—is available at around 4,400 FamilyMart stores nationwide. This year's Good Design Award drew 5,111 entries, with 1,484 ultimately selected.
For everyday consumers, this kind of design links the bottle from a routine purchase and discarded seafood shells into something new, giving casual disposal another possible destination. That said, the carbon-reduction and antibacterial figures are self-reported by the brand; those seeking further product details or sales information should check official announcements from FamilyMart and the brand.
