For a lot of American festivalgoers, SB19's Lollapalooza set will mark the first time they've ever heard the term P-pop. The group is well aware of what that means: "First of all, it's an honor to represent the Philippines and Southeast Asia on a stage like Lollapalooza. But at the same time, there's pressure, because we're introducing this genre to people who might be hearing P-pop for the very first time."
They're the first Filipino and Southeast Asian act ever booked on a Lollapalooza lineup. Rather than lowering expectations under that kind of weight, SB19 doubled down on preparation instead: "We're approaching this performance with excellence and confidence, believing that we were chosen because we have a story to tell through our music and because of who we are as artists." More than the performance itself, what matters most to them is what sticks with the crowd afterward — "We want people to see us as artists first. We write our own songs, we perform live ourselves, and more than that, we want people to see the Philippines through us: a country full of talent, great stories, and world-class artistry. Being the first Southeast Asian act on this stage is a statement in itself — that Philippine music belongs on the world stage."
This performance caps off a string of major moments: a visit to the Grammy Museum, a Billboard Music Awards nomination, and sold-out shows at the Philippine Arena. But SB19 says none of these milestones have changed how they see themselves: "For us, we've always stayed focused on becoming better and preparing for what's next. These milestones remind us to keep training, keep improving, and stay grounded throughout this journey."
