What to know | Live-Action Street Fighter Tops North America with $31 Million, $51.1 Million Worldwide Opening

Paramount Pictures and Legendary Entertainment's live-action film Street Fighter topped the North American box office on its opening weekend, earning $31 million; combined with $20.1 million from overseas markets, the film's global opening weekend total reached $51.1 million.

How did Street Fighter perform at the box office?

The film, made on an $82 million budget, was directed by Kitao Sakurai and stars Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji. It opened simultaneously in 3,575 theaters across North America. Co-financed by Legendary and Capcom, it marks the franchise's third live-action film adaptation, following previous installments in 1994 and 2009, and remains in North American theaters.

Why is the A24 documentary drawing attention?

Taking second place at the box office was the A24 documentary You Can See Everything, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim. Screening in just 855 theaters, the film recorded a $15 million opening on a production budget of roughly $7 million, with a runtime of nearly three hours. The film documents the final moments before Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes began her 11-year prison sentence. This marks the highest opening weekend for a documentary since Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004, and the highest opening for a film released in fewer than 1,000 theaters since Borat in 2006.

What about the other new releases?

Third place went to Universal's Other Mommy, earning $8.3 million; fourth place was Disney's Whalefall, with $8 million; and fifth place was Focus Features' Sense and Sensibility, taking in $7.2 million.

What do the Netflix theater numbers reveal?

This release window also marked the first time Netflix officially disclosed theatrical box office earnings. La Bola Negra, directed by Los Javis, screened in just four special theaters and recorded $277,500 in ticket sales, a rare instance of the platform publicly releasing theatrical figures.
