What to know | The Cribs Return Home After 10 Years to Play 'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever' in Full for Its 20th Anniversary

A rehearsal space turned concert stage is the most intriguing detail of this Cribs show. On Friday, August 20, 2027, the Jarman brothers will return to Tileyard North — the very place where they rehearsed in the early 2000s, just steps from their childhood home — to perform their 2007 album 'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever' in full, marking its 20th anniversary.

This marks the band's first hometown show in Wakefield in over a decade. Joining them on the bill are Yorkshire art-rockers ¡Forward, Russia!, who will also perform their 2007 debut album 'Give Me A Wall' in full — two anniversaries falling on the very same night.

'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever' was produced by Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos and features tracks like "Moving Pictures," "I'm a Realist," and "Our Bovine Public." The album earned an 8/10 rating from NME at the time, landed at number nine on the outlet's albums of 2007 list, and was described as "the sexiest dirty pop record of the year." NME's review at the time read: "They didn't make this record for the bank balance, but for the emo kids who've had their back since day one, the disillusioned Libertines fans, and the alt-rock obsessives."

The show also serves as the opening night of the second edition of promoter Futuresound Events' Live At Tileyard North series, with The Cribs currently the only confirmed headliner. Series promoter Toby Womack said: "2026 was met with a brilliant response, and it's great to know we've got Wakefield's backing to keep this series going. There's no better way to open it than with The Cribs' first hometown show in over 10 years — it's going to be a really special night."

Worth noting: The Cribs reissued their first three albums in 2022 — their self-titled 2004 debut, 2005's 'The New Fellas,' and 'Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever' — all three of which re-entered the UK charts simultaneously. Frontman Ryan Jarman told NME at the time that the reissues were simply driven by the vinyl editions having been out of print for so long: "We didn't expect that kind of response, but it's great — it shows people still care about these records, and that's not something you can take for granted."

Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, October 23 at 10am BST, with a presale opening Wednesday, October 21 at the same time.
