Twin Atlantic's New Single "Supersweetness" Features Sam McTrusty's Own Daughters on Backing Vocals

What does it feel like to love someone so much it makes you sick? Sam McTrusty has put the answer into his new song—and the ones singing backing vocals are none other than his two daughters.

Twin Atlantic have released their new single "Supersweetness," which will appear on the band's upcoming album "Separation From The Animals," set for release via Dance To The Radio on October 2nd. Unlike the previous singles, this time McTrusty brought in his own daughters to lend their voices, adding the most direct footnote possible to the song's deeply personal nature.

"Every song is a love song, really," McTrusty said of the track. "But this one's about a bittersweet feeling—loving my kids so much that it almost makes me uncomfortable." He also mentioned that the song was inspired by that overwhelming emotion of "loving something so much it actually hurts."

"Supersweetness" is the third single released from the upcoming album, following "In Your Eyes" and "Don't Quit It." "Separation From The Animals" is the follow-up to 2024's "Meltdown," and marks the first time in years that all four founding members of Twin Atlantic have come together in the studio to complete a record.

The album was written after McTrusty relocated to Toronto with his wife and two children to start a new chapter in life. He describes growing up in a fairly fractured family, saying "I was being shipped around from six months old, that's the only way of life I've known," an upbringing that continues to shape his songwriting to this day. He said that as one gets older, the way you view life changes—"especially that struggle of going from being a boy to a man"—and for him, that process was especially painful, emotional, and chaotic.

"This is who we've always been, we've just pulled the veil back," he said. "I hope that after listening to this album, people feel inspired to be a bit more honest with themselves too."

The full tracklist for "Separation From The Animals" is: "Your, The End," "In Your Eyes," "I'm Not Coming Home," "Don't Quit It," "Strong," "The Risk Of Love Is Always Loss," "Unless It Hurts," "Confidant," "Save Your Breath," "Supersweetness," "Lost," and "Feel It All." The album is now available for pre-order, and the band has also announced their 2026 tour plans.
