Before 'Flex X Cop 2' even premiered, the director already dropped a spoiler of sorts: Yoo Seung-ho's character was originally supposed to be the show's "hidden ace," meant to stay under wraps until later in the season for a big reveal. But his face was just too handsome, and the director couldn't resist giving him screen time right from the start. "I wanted to hold back a bit and save him for later, but Yoo Seung-ho's face is impossible to hide, so I felt like I couldn't be stingy with the camera," the director said — a line that pretty much sets the tone for the whole season. This isn't a show that hides its cards; it's a show that lays everything on the table and flexes.
Ahn Bo-hyun's character Jin Yi-soo, who spent the first season as a chaebol third-generation heir tagging along at crime scenes thanks to connections, has now officially graduated from the police academy and returned as a certified detective. His new partner is Jung Eun-chae's Ju Hye-ra — a former head of the Anti-Terrorism Unit at the National Police Agency, and also Jin Yi-soo's notoriously terrifying instructor back at the academy. The two go from teacher-student to coworkers, with a relationship built on what can only be described as "bad blood." With season one's female lead Park Ji-hyun unable to return due to scheduling conflicts, recasting is always a risk for a sequel — but based on the trailer, the dynamic of Jin Yi-soo getting bossed around and tail-tucked in front of Ju Hye-ra, like a big dog suddenly turned meek, adds a fresh kind of chemistry. Whether their master-and-rival relationship will develop romantic undertones remains an open question.
Yoo Seung-ho plays Yoo Sung-won, the youngest son of the media conglomerate UBS, whose wealth puts him on the same level as Jin Yi-soo. The two grew up together and consider each other brothers, which makes his entanglement with Jin Yi-soo and Ju Hye-ra even more complicated — the trailer shows him covered in blood at one point, and Ju Hye-ra's long-pursued target seems to point straight at him. What exactly the relationship between these three really is remains one of the season's biggest unresolved threads.
