What to know | Uoto’s UO10 Exhibition Opens in December With Around 150 Artworks and Creative Documents

Manga artist Uoto will hold his first artist exhibition "Uoto 10th Anniversary Exhibition UO10." at the Yurakucho Museum of Art in Tokyo International Forum. The exhibition period will be from December 19, 2026 to February 23, 2027. The exhibition is expected to present about 150 original artwork and creative materials, and the studio will be moved into the scene, allowing the audience to come into contact with not only the completed comics, but also the process of the creation of the works.

From the 100-meter running track to the starry sky, turning comics into space

The exhibition uses motifs from the manga to shape its spaces: the 100-meter track from 100m, the starry sky of Orb: On the Movements of the Earth, and the logic tree from Welcome to FACT. Scenes, circulation and viewing positions translate the timing and narrative of the page into another experience.

This type of adaptation does not have to be the same as restoring the comic page by page. The audience can first look at which image is chosen for the space, and then look back and think about what role it plays in the story; those who are familiar with the work can compare the switching methods, and those who are new to it can also enter from clues such as running tracks, night skies or charts.

In addition to original artwork, drafts and notes provide another level of reading.

The exhibits include ideas, storyboard drafts, setting materials and memos, as well as early short stories. Compared with the neat pages after publication, these contents allow people to pay attention to how information, characters and rhythm are arranged during the creation process, rather than just looking at the final scenes that are retained.

Uoto began serializing 100m in 2018. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth followed in 2020 and won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize’s Manga Grand Prize. The anniversary looks at the artist’s wider creative career; the start of serialization is not necessarily the beginning of all his work.

Live studio, no guarantee of meeting a writer every time

A workspace will be set up at the venue, where Uoto will work on creations such as ハルシネーションミート, and the works produced during the period will be gradually added to the display. When the writer is away, the audience can enter the studio to take photos according to the on-site regulations, making the desktop and tools a part of the viewing experience.

The organizer does not announce the arrival time of Uoto, hoping to retain the feeling of accidentally meeting the daily life of comics. Therefore, purchasing a ticket does not guarantee that you will see the person in person, nor should you treat the work space as an autograph session; visits and photography are still subject to the venue arrangements on that day.

Co-branded merchandise and designated time slot tickets, please confirm the contents separately

Uoto participates in the planning and supervision of exhibition merchandise. Cooperation partners include ANREALAGE, JOHNDOE, HATRA and magma. Details will be announced separately. For styles, prices and sizes that have not yet been disclosed, it is not advisable to speculate based on the brand name alone; if you want to collect specific products, you can wait for the official images and sales methods.

Tickets are specified by date and time period, and are 2,500 yen for general and college students, 1,800 yen for high school students, and 1,300 yen for elementary and middle school students. The limited ticket with UO10 logo rubber keychain is 3,700 yen. The last one is a ticket price that includes a bonus item, not the price of a single keychain. When planning your itinerary, first confirm the admission time, and then set aside time to read the original artwork and information, so that you can better see the different levels of the comics after they leave the page.
