Vin Diesel Calls Fast Forever the Best Fast & Furious Script Ever, Says He's "Still Crying"

Vin Diesel posted "I'm still crying" on Instagram—not over a scene, but over a script. He said that after reading the screenplay for the latest Fast & Furious installment, Fast Forever, it's the best script he's read in decades. Coming from the franchise's lead and longtime driving force himself, that's no small statement.

Fast Forever, developed by Universal Pictures, is the 11th mainline entry in the series, picking up where 2023's Fast X left off. Fast X grossed $704 million worldwide and ended on a cliffhanger teasing the returns of Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson, though there's no confirmation yet on whether either will actually appear in the new film.

The script comes from Michael Lesslie, who previously worked on The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, this time reworking an original draft by Aaron Rabin and Zach Dean. Directing duties go to Louis Leterrier, the veteran behind The Transporter and The Incredible Hulk, who knows his way around action set pieces.

In his post, Diesel also dropped a key detail: Fast Forever will tie into the story of the original 2001 film, The Fast and the Furious. That franchise-starting movie is heading back to theaters on August 21 to mark its 25th anniversary. The timing lines up in a way that suggests the series is deliberately linking its origin to its future—though exactly how remains under wraps.

Fast Forever is confirmed for a theatrical release on March 17, 2028. With plenty of time before then, plot details and casting have yet to be announced.
