Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV Delayed to December 3, Commander Edition Players Still Get 3-Day Early Access

KING Art Games has pushed the release date back to December 3, 2026, saying the goal is to deliver the best possible experience from day one, while also revealing plans for two major story expansions in the first year.

The most direct line in the delay announcement comes from Creative Director Jan Theysen, who said he wants players to "have the best possible experience starting from day one." That statement sums up the logic behind KING Art Games' decision — it's not that there isn't enough content, it's that the polish isn't quite there yet.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV's original release timeline has now been confirmed to push back to December 3, 2026. Alongside the announcement, the studio released an explainer video and updated its first-year content roadmap. The development team says the extra time will go toward performance optimization and bug fixes, while also making sure feedback from recent community playtests actually gets folded into the final release — instead of being patched in after launch.

Players who purchase the Commander Edition won't be affected — they'll keep their original 3-day early access, letting them jump into the fight starting November 30, three days ahead of the standard edition.

The first-year roadmap has also been adjusted alongside the delay. After launch, the studio plans to add the series-familiar Crusade Mode via a free update, followed by new maps, new game modes, new commanders, and a mission editor. More notably, the studio has confirmed two major story expansions coming in the first year, which will continue the war on Chronos and introduce new playable factions — in other words, the long-term content roadmap is already lined up before the game has even properly launched.

This latest entry in the Warhammer 40,000 RTS series features four playable factions — Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus — each with their own campaigns for players to command across multiple large-scale story arcs. Beyond the single-player campaigns, the game will also offer multiplayer PvP and bring back the series' fan-favorite Last Stand and Skirmish modes. The studio says it will continue rolling out Battlefield Reports, gameplay demos, and behind-the-scenes videos from the development team in the coming months.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is set to launch on PC on December 3, 2026, with Commander Edition players getting 3 days of early access starting November 30.
