Wet-weather running starts with a practical question: are you heading onto pavement or a muddy trail? ALTRA plans to release the EXPERIENCE FLOW 3 GTX and EXPERIENCE WILD 3+ GTX in Japan on October 28. FLOW is intended for road running and walking; WILD targets trail running and hiking. Both use a GORE-TEX Invisible Fit upper within the EXPERIENCE range, but they are not simply the same shoe renamed.
Both have a 4mm heel-to-forefoot drop, 32/28mm stack heights, ALTRA EGO P35 midsoles and a Standard FootShape fit. ALTRA is often associated with zero-drop shoes, yet these two deliberately retain a height difference. Check the complete model name and specification rather than predicting the feel from the brand alone.
FLOW: an everyday road option
The EXPERIENCE FLOW 3 GTX costs JPY27,500 including Japanese tax and uses a MaxTrac outsole. Reflective details join a blue colour scheme; the released product photographs show pale-to-dark blue layers and ALTRA lettering along the side. The men’s colour is Blue Hour/Dawn and the women’s is Blue Hour/Dusk. Those different names matter when choosing an online option.

Listed weights are 274g for men at US10.5/28.5cm and 232g for women at US8.5/25.5cm. These are size-specific reference measurements, not fixed weights for every size. For city walking and regular road runs, use the stated purpose as a starting point, then try the shoes with your usual socks to assess toe space and heel hold.
WILD: trail equipment and toe protection
The EXPERIENCE WILD 3+ GTX costs JPY28,600 including tax, JPY1,100 more than FLOW. It has a Vibram Megagrip outsole and an integrated toe bumper. Both men’s and women’s colours are Blue Hour/Dawn, while the midsole and 4mm drop remain shared specifications. Compare the equipment against your terrain rather than assuming the higher price suits every runner.

WILD is listed at 323g for men at US10.5/28.5cm and 269g for women at US8.5/25.5cm. Its GaiterTrap attachment supports use with trail gaiters; that does not establish that gaiters are included with the shoes. The manufacturer’s wet-ground grip and protection descriptions are not our field-test results or a guarantee against slipping on every wet surface.
Japanese availability and a fitting checklist
Both models are scheduled for October 28 at Japanese ALTRA stockists, ALTRA TOKYO GINZA and the ALTRA JAPAN online store. Prices here are Japanese tax-inclusive yen figures, not Taiwan retail prices. A Japanese release does not establish a simultaneous Taiwanese launch. Check size and colour stock with the chosen shop before making a travel-shopping plan.
GORE-TEX Invisible Fit, the 4mm drop and Standard fit provide concrete points of comparison, while personal comfort still requires trying the shoes. A waterproof upper does not mean unrestricted wading or dryness in every environment. Consider your route, internal space and any separate accessories rather than treating performance descriptions as an individual outcome promise.
