Apple Martin Steps Out in White Lace Dress in Brentwood, and the Gwyneth Paltrow Genes in Her Closet Are Showing
Apple Martin was recently spotted in a white lace summer dress while out and about in Brentwood, California, its drop-waist silhouette echoing her mom Gwyneth Paltrow's early red carpet looks. It's not the first time mother and daughter have shown this kind of style synchronicity.
White lace, a drop-waist hemline — when this dress shows up on Apple Martin, it's hard not to think of the '90s pieces sitting in her mother Gwyneth Paltrow's closet. She was recently photographed out in Brentwood, California, wearing a white summer dress trimmed with lace at the neckline, the waistline sitting right at the hip — exactly the kind of silhouette language that defined Paltrow's era.
This isn't a coincidental resemblance. Apple Martin, daughter of Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, currently works as a model, and she told Vogue earlier this year: "My mom's closet from when she was in her 20s is probably one of my favorite things in the world. Just thinking about what's in there gets me a little emotional." Paltrow told Vogue last year that her daughter is particularly fond of her '90s Calvin Klein and Prada pieces, and that the two sometimes play dress-up, with Apple slipping straight into the gowns she wore to the Oscars back in the day.
Whether this white dress actually came from Paltrow's closet hasn't been confirmed, but the visual parallel is hard to miss. When Paltrow received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010, she wore a white scalloped-edge Monique Lhuillier dress with a cut and mood not far off from Apple's look here. Further back, at a 2004 film premiere, she wore a white Lanvin summer dress cinched with a bow at the waist. Two white dresses, six years apart, that together capture Paltrow's longtime taste for "clean, timeless summer dresses."
This isn't the first time mother and daughter have mirrored each other's style. Last year, at the New York premiere of Paltrow's film Marty Supreme, both of them opted for black. The black Calvin Klein Collection gown Apple wore that night was actually a '90s piece straight out of Paltrow's closet — one she'd worn to the premiere of Emma back in 1996. From that black gown to this white lace dress, Apple Martin seems to be growing more and more comfortable finding her answers in her mother's wardrobe.
