What to know | B0YG1RL's Self-Titled Debut Album Drops: After a Sold-Out Season, an "I'm Tired" Hidden Inside "power off"

After an entire summer of near-sold-out shows, opening slots alongside Ninajirachi and Six Sex, and a party trail that ran from New York to Paris to LA, B0YG1RL should be this year's buzziest newcomers with zero time to breathe. But on the album's closing track "power off," June Vinette admits to being tired first—even as the next line still promises more: "If you get a little closer, how do I explain that I'll save you."

B0YG1RL's Self-Titled Debut Album Drops: After a Sold-Out Season, an "I'm Tired" Hidden Inside "power off"

B0YG1RL is the Miami duo made up of June Vinette and Angela Rio. Their March single "Je M'Appelle Tete" quickly built them a devoted following, with fans already including Ninajirachi, Isabella Lovestory, and Cannelle. Their sound is like a diasporic dance music stew, all-genre and omnivorous—konpa, dembow, and baile funk rhythms bleeding into one another, a refraction of Miami's Black and Latin cultures through contemporary electronic music. Following the March EP 777 and the subsequent EXIT 2B, they've been booked solid this summer.

The FADER caught a few of these dates on record: Vinette playing back-to-back sets at Performance Space and Paragon, rotating through Nightclub 101 to open for 1LDK and Ben Doctor, showing up alongside producer Kaynive$ at Le Bain, and even closing out a 3 a.m. Labor Day weekend set at Nowadays.

B0YG1RL's Self-Titled Debut Album Drops: After a Sold-Out Season, an "I'm Tired" Hidden Inside "power off"

The self-titled debut album is now officially out via Surf Gang, with a production credits list that includes amne, Trauma, Prblm, and DJ Travella, among others. The album features previously released singles "MOND LAN FINI" and "SHOW ME," and brings in fellow Surf Gang artist Jackzebra—previously featured in The FADER's GEN F series—for a collaboration on "TV."

"power off" is produced by Umru and Heartgaze, its riddim underneath urgent and slippery, nearly impossible to stay still to. Vinette sings mostly in Creole, and even without understanding the lyrics, the intensity hiding beneath that exhaustion comes through clearly—even admitting to having "sacrificed it all," B0YG1RL still leaves enough charge on this debut album to keep the party going.
