BBC Confirms 2027 Launch for 'Blue Planet 3' Concert Tour, With Hans Zimmer's Score Performed Live Beneath a Tennis-Court-Sized Screen
According to BBC, May 2027 will see the UK debut of Blue Planet 3's live orchestral concert tour, where the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra performs Hans Zimmer's own score live as documentary footage plays across a tennis-court-sized LED screen.
A tennis-court-sized Ultra HD LED screen stands at the center of the concert hall, with a full orchestra performing live on stage — but what the audience below is watching isn't a concert at all, it's the underwater world narrated by David Attenborough. This is the concert tour BBC has planned for Blue Planet 3, now confirmed to launch in May 2027.
Blue Planet 3 itself will premiere later this year with six episodes, continuing the series' signature underwater ecology focus, again narrated by David Attenborough. In the trailer released for the show, Attenborough says this season will "explore further than ever before," adding: "We will discover life more surprising, more intelligent, and more precious than we ever knew, and find that our relationship with the ocean has never mattered more."
The score once again comes from Hans Zimmer, which is also the main draw of this tour. The concert, titled Blue Planet 3 Live In Concert, will be hosted by the show's executive producer Elizabeth White, who, according to the official press release, will share "the astonishing stories and filming processes behind this brand new chapter" live on stage. The performance will also feature specially edited footage from Blue Planet 3.
The score, co-written by Zimmer alongside Thom Lukas and Laurentia Editha of Bleeding Fingers Music, will be performed live by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. Zimmer said in a statement: "There's nothing quite like experiencing this score live with an orchestra, especially alongside these incredible images of life beneath the waves."
Tour Dates and Ticket Sales
Three confirmed shows are all set for May 2027: May 21 at AO Arena in Manchester, May 22 at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham, and May 23 at OVO Hydro in Glasgow. The London date has yet to be announced and will be confirmed at a later time. Tickets for the three announced shows go on sale this Friday (October 16), and fans who want to be the first to hear about the London show can sign up for updates.
White spoke about the production process in her statement: "Filming Blue Planet 3 took us to places we never imagined we'd capture, but bringing those images into a packed concert hall with a live orchestral score will be an entirely different kind of experience. This tour is a chance to share the series on a completely different scale, and I can't wait to be there in person to reveal the stories behind the footage audiences see on screen."
The original Blue Planet premiered 25 years ago, and its sequel, Blue Planet 2, was the UK's highest-rated TV show of 2017. Earlier this month, it was also confirmed that former Little Mix member JADE has teamed up with Zimmer to create a song for Blue Planet 3 titled "Into The Deep (Seas Cry)."
