Only 22 Pounds Heavier With the Roof Off: Czinger 21C Spyder Goes Topless Without Losing Downforce

Czinger unveiled its first convertible supercar, the 21C Spyder, at Monterey Car Week — 1,250 horsepower, 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, only 30 units worldwide, starting at $2.75 million.

Only 22 Pounds Heavier With the Roof Off: Czinger 21C Spyder Goes Topless Without Losing Downforce

The biggest fear with convertibles is that dropping the roof means dropping performance too. Czinger's solution: ditch the top, and the car only gains 22 pounds.

The Southern California-based supercar maker debuted its first-ever open-top model, the 21C Spyder, at Monterey Car Week. Visually it's nearly identical to the 21C HDF, with the signature bubble-canopy cockpit switching from fixed to removable — but the aerodynamics of the carbon-fiber body haven't been compromised as a result. At 150 mph with the top off, downforce hits 3,267 pounds, which Czinger claims beats every production convertible that's come before it. With the top on, that figure climbs to 3,307 pounds, nearly matching the HDF. Factor in the new A-pillars added to support the open-top structure, and the Spyder's dry weight lands at 3,571 pounds — just 22 pounds more than the original.

The cabin keeps the 21C lineup's signature tandem two-seat layout, driver up front, passenger in back. The headline addition is the "NeuralNode" dashboard, developed with generative AI firm Divergent Technologies, which uses 3D-printing tech to fuse the digital gauge cluster, steering wheel, and various physical controls into a single unit. The driver's display doubles as the infotainment screen, paired with an eight-speaker custom Morel sound system.

The powertrain carries over entirely from the HDF: a 2.88-liter twin-turbo V8 paired with a hybrid system featuring electric motors on both the front and rear axles, sending 1,250 horsepower and 692 lb-ft of torque through a seven-speed transmission. The numbers are staggering: 0-60 mph in just 1.9 seconds, the quarter-mile in 8.7 seconds, and a top speed of 205 mph.

The braking system got an upgrade too. Dubbed "BrakeNode," the integrated brake setup combines the suspension upright, caliper, and hydraulic lines into a single component, cutting unsprung mass while shortening stopping distances by up to 15%. This system comes standard on the Spyder and can also be retrofitted onto existing HDF and 21C Vmax models.

Czinger plans to build just 30 units of the 21C Spyder. Orders are open now, starting at $2.75 million.
