After Years-Long Legal Battle, FKA Twigs Secures Freedom to Speak by Ending NDA with Shia LaBeouf
Arguing in an LA court that a 2025 confidentiality agreement violated California's STAND Act, FKA Twigs saw Shia LaBeouf agree seven months later to terminate the deal, allowing her to speak publicly about their relationship.
A single NDA once restricted even which charities she could support. FKA Twigs and Shia LaBeouf's years-long legal saga has reached a new turning point with the termination of that confidentiality agreement — she's now free to speak openly about the relationship without restriction.
It all goes back to 2020, when Twigs sued LaBeouf for "relentless abuse," alleging sexual violence, assault, and emotional harm, seeking $10 million in damages. The lawsuit was settled in July 2025, though the terms weren't disclosed at the time. The real turning point came in March 2026, when Twigs filed court documents accusing LaBeouf of secretly pursuing an "arbitration complaint" against her over an October 2025 interview. Twigs' legal team argued in the filing that this move directly violated California law — and that the agreement's terms had bizarrely restricted which charities she could even support.
Billboard was first to report on the court documents. According to the filing, LaBeouf's legal team strongly denied Twigs' claims back in March, insisting she had already agreed to be bound by the settlement terms. Twigs' lawyers countered that her interview hadn't violated the NDA at all — and even if it had, the agreement itself was illegal and unenforceable under California's STAND Act. The dispute never made it to a courtroom argument; LaBeouf instead agreed to terminate and rescind the agreement.
Twigs' attorney Matthew Rosengart told PEOPLE that Twigs "stood up for something bigger than herself — for all women who are survivors of sexual abuse," adding that this win "allows her complete freedom to speak about her own experiences, to advocate for women who aren't in as fortunate a position as she is, and to support the causes of her choosing." LaBeouf's attorney Shawn Holley responded, "Shia sincerely wishes Twigs well in her life and career, which is why he agreed to end this long-running dispute between them. Twigs has been talking about this for years, and nothing will stop her from continuing to do so now."
In the court filing, Twigs' lawyers wrote that she is "proud to continue speaking about her experiences and to advocate for other women, including those who may lack the resources to stand up for themselves."
