Gangshan’s AWAKE Xingcun reopens with exhibitions and restored arcades
The Kaohsiung heritage site is open free of charge, with three exhibitions. The planned PLAY! Xingcun venue is a separate project expected in mid-2027.
Kaohsiung Gangshan Xingcun opened to the public in October 2026 after four years of cultural asset restoration. In the past, the dormitory, former air-force housing and the filming location of the Taiwanese drama "一把青" have now re-entered the daily life of the city with historical landscapes, exhibitions and public spaces. It is suitable for arranging a cultural walk where you can walk slowly and watch slowly.
Admission to the park is currently free. It is open from 10:00 to 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays. Another overseas branch of Japan's PLAY! PARK that has attracted attention is planned to open in mid-2027; the open Xingcun and the future PLAY! Xingcun must be understood separately.
Key facts
You can visit now: historical buildings and 3 themed exhibitions, and admission to the park is free.
Time: Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:00, closed on Monday.
PLAY! Xingcun is planned for mid-2027 and is not a parent-child venue that has opened now.
Arcades and pitched roofs, preserved traces of life
Xingcun originated from dormitories related to the aviation factory during the Japanese colonial period, and gradually formed an air force military dependent village after the war. The two-story brick sloping roof, mixed Japanese and Western architecture, and continuous arched front porch are easily identifiable clues when entering the park, and also provide a concrete and visible carrier of aviation and life history.
The restoration preserves the roof tiles, wooden components, arches and old trees, and also allows the traces of post-war additions to remain on the site. When visiting, you can compare how the old and new materials are exchanged, and understand that preservation does not mean smoothing out all traces; this allows you to feel the significance of the old house being reused more than just looking for the same photo angle.

3 exhibitions, from local daily life to dramatic memory
Building B’s 《降落22.47°N-看見岡山日常》 uses color to introduce local rivers, farmland, industry and housing history. Building C’s 《聆聽醒光》 brings together installations, sound and light to offer another way of experiencing the historic site.
"Echoes of the Times - Special Exhibition of "一把青" Drama" cuts into the collective memory from the scene of the work. You can first read the historical and local content, and then return to the film and drama display to gain a more complete understanding of the shooting space; readers who like drama can also reverse the story from the characters into the real scenery.

How to distinguish the future PLAY! Xingcun from the current visit?
PLAY! Xingcun is expected to bring the art, games and learning concepts of Japan's PLAY! PARK in mid-2027, and Takaharu Tezuka will participate in the space design. Before the official venue is completed, the park will start communication with Let’s Play! planning and workshops. Please refer to the announcement for event registration and venue.
Xingcun is located at the intersection of Renshou South Road and Jieshou Road, Gangshan, next to Yangming Park. When planning your itinerary, first make arrangements based on the current opening hours of the park, and confirm the quota and fees for workshops separately; free admission should not be expanded to mean that all future activities are free of charge, nor does it mean that unfinished venues can be used in advance.
