That meme video comparing him to a green onion, which racked up over 100 million views, will now have to be filed away as an old photo of Haaland. Manchester City star Erling Haaland recently posted a series of photos on Instagram documenting his haircut process and new look, shaving off the long blonde hair that had become his trademark for years in favor of a sleek buzz cut. He captioned one post "New season, new trim" and another "Short hair don't care."

His long hair, once tied back in a ponytail, made him instantly recognizable on the pitch and earned him playful nicknames like "Majin Buu," turning him into a go-to subject for fan-made memes. The video comparing his blonde hair to a green onion has already surpassed 100 million views, widely recognized among fans as the ultimate classic Haaland meme. Now that this long hair he's kept for years has been cut off, the "green onion look" has officially come to an end.

哈蘭德剪掉招牌金髮,新賽季改留寸頭亮相

Based on the selfies shared in the post, Haaland has switched to a short, clean-cut buzz cut, giving him a much fresher vibe compared to when he had long hair — a completely different look from the image of him sprinting with his hair in a ponytail. He seems quite pleased with the new style, showing off several close-up selfies in the post.

The timing isn't a coincidence either. Right after leading Norway to their best-ever finish at the 2026 World Cup, Haaland went straight into preparations for Manchester City's new season. The team opened with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth. Haaland didn't score in the match, but the win still marked his first official appearance with the new hairstyle.
