BB Pod Just Became a Spinning CD Player — Kojima Productions Teams Up with km5

BB Pod Just Became a Spinning CD Player — Kojima Productions Teams Up with km5

In Death Stranding, the BB Pod is the last thing you want to shake around — a translucent capsule filled with gel, cradling a baby inside, where even the slightest jolt could throw off your mission. This time, Kojima Productions teamed up with Japanese audio brand km5 to turn that fragile, uncanny object into an actual working CD player.

This limited-edition "Instant Disc Audio Cp1" comes housed in a semi-transparent orange shell, and the design logic is straightforward: let users watch the CD spin and the mechanism work, echoing the gel-encased, faintly-visible quality of the BB Pod itself. What was once a quiet prop sitting inside the game world has now been pulled into reality as a physical, spinning mechanical object — and that transformation is more interesting than whether the design itself is "good-looking."

On the hardware side, this is a reworked version of km5's standard Cp1 model, featuring a Nixie tube-style LED display and support for both standard CD and mini disc formats. There are no built-in speakers — audio output relies entirely on Bluetooth 5.3 to connect to external headphones or speakers, with roughly seven to eight hours of playback per charge. Deliberately dropping the speaker and keeping the unit slim and light makes this feel more like a display piece for your desk than a traditional portable CD player.

The packaging wasn't phoned in either. km5 usually keeps things minimalist, but this box swaps that out for mechanical patterns and warning signage lifted straight from the game, tying directly into Death Stranding's world rather than just slapping on a logo. Every limited-edition unit also comes with a postcard printed with a scene from the game.

This collab launches alongside the "KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS × PARCO GAMES STRAND STORE" pop-up in Shibuya, where it'll be displayed and sold together with other official merch. It's priced at ¥25,300, available exclusively through km5's official website and the pop-up store — no other retail channels have been announced.
