LV Teams Up With Pat McGrath on $340 Eyeshadow Palette—Nearly $85 Per Shade

Louis Vuitton has joined forces with legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath for the first time on a Monogram eyeshadow palette. At $340 for four shades—averaging nearly $85 per color—it may just be the most expensive eyeshadow palette on the market.

LV Teams Up With Pat McGrath on $340 Eyeshadow Palette—Nearly $85 Per Shade

A four-shade eyeshadow palette priced at $340—that works out to nearly $85 per shade, pricier than plenty of single eyeshadows on their own. This is the LV Ombres Monogram Eyeshadow Palette, a collaboration between Louis Vuitton and makeup artist Pat McGrath, and it begs the question: at this price, are you buying makeup meant to be worn, or a collector's piece destined to stay sealed in its box?

The two limited-edition palettes mark the first official collaboration under the name "La Beauté Louis Vuitton" between Louis Vuitton's creative director Nicolas Ghesquière and makeup artist Pat McGrath. The same collection also includes four lipsticks priced at $195 each. McGrath, who has crafted Louis Vuitton's runway looks for over two decades and now serves as the brand's makeup creative director, describes this collaboration as "a natural next step" in their long creative relationship.

The two palettes were launched to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Louis Vuitton's iconic Monogram pattern, and the two are deliberately styled as contrasts. LV Ombres 724 Monogram Dune takes a softer approach, drawing inspiration from desert landscapes with warm, muted neutral tones. LV Ombres 715 Monogram Infrarouge, on the other hand, is far more intense, built around berry-red and violet hues with a shimmering charcoal black shade that gives it a much bolder personality. McGrath herself puts it plainly: Monogram Dune is "luminous and warm," while Infrarouge is "fearless, high-contrast, and unapologetic."

Packaging is another highlight of this collaboration. While the standard LV Ombres line comes in refillable plastic compacts, this limited edition wraps the entire casing in signature Monogram-coated canvas—Infrarouge in a black-and-red colorway, Dune in cream and rose-gray tones. The same canvas material extends to the collection's lipstick pouch and the Nice beauty case.

As for what's truly "unapologetic," it's the price tag itself. According to Allure, the editorial team combed their memory and couldn't recall an eyeshadow palette that comes close to matching $340. McGrath's own brand's ten-shade Mothership palette runs $128—a relative bargain by comparison. Hermès's four-shade palette costs around $114, working out to less than $29 per shade with tax included. Even Louis Vuitton's standard LV Ombres palette tops out at $250. By that measure, this limited-edition Monogram palette is very likely the most expensive eyeshadow palette on the market—and may even set a record in beauty history.

The collection is now available on the official website, with in-store availability set to launch August 27.
