It Started With a Dashboard Clock: How LV and Singer Built Two Bespoke 911s

Singer set out to commission a single dashboard clock from Louis Vuitton — and ended up with two fully bespoke Porsche 911s, right down to matching driving gear and gloves.

It Started With a Dashboard Clock: How LV and Singer Built Two Bespoke 911s

The story starts small: Singer Vehicle Design approached Louis Vuitton with a simple ask — a custom dashboard clock for one of its cars. What came out of that conversation instead was two Porsche 911s, completely reimagined down to the interiors, instrument panels, and even the owner's wardrobe.

An unexpected dashboard clock request: LV and Singer turn two 911s into haute couture

Jean Arnault, Director of Louis Vuitton's Watch Division, says the original brief really was just a clock, to be handled by the brand's Swiss atelier, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton. But both sides quickly realized there was room to go further — extending Louis Vuitton's leather craftsmanship and horological expertise to every functional element of the vehicle. What began as a single commission grew into a full cross-departmental design project spanning the entire car.

The result: two cars. One is the "Classic" Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer, finished in Louis Vuitton's signature saffron yellow, cobalt blue and yellow. The other is a convertible "Classic Turbo," painted in Calcaire Lutétien stone grey with luxurious wood trim, its interior designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton's Artistic Director of Women's Collections — marking his first time bringing his design sensibility to an automobile.

The Clock Grew Into an Entire Instrument Cluster

On the Classic, that original commission became a removable dashboard clock inspired by the Tambour watch collection — pull it out and it works as a standalone desk clock. The speedometer and tachometer carry the same design language, while the chrome knobs, switches, and air vents were all remade from scratch, with the cabin wrapped extensively in Louis Vuitton's finest leather. A roof rack was added to secure luggage, surfboards, or skis — the brand's first-ever automotive design project, and barely a corner was left untouched.

Even more interesting than the cars themselves is that the brand also outfitted the owners' wardrobes. The Classic Coupe comes paired with a Millésime leather racing jacket, cotton and silk denim trousers, custom driving shoes or LV Remix Derbies, perforated leather gloves (in natural leather or cobalt blue), and a driving helmet trimmed in calfskin. The Turbo convertible takes a softer approach: a custom parachute-silk driving suit, woven leather gloves, LV Sneakerinas, and a Monogram helmet. Each car also comes with its own matching luggage set, tailored in materials and colorways to complement the vehicle.

This is no quick badge-slapping collab. The project brought together trunk makers, leather artisans, and watchmakers, with each car taking nearly a year and around 4,000 hours of handwork to complete — consistent with Singer's usual pace, just with Louis Vuitton's ateliers now in the mix.
