7 minutes, 32.070 seconds — that's the officially certified lap time the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ posted around the 20.8km Nürburgring Nordschleife. Behind the wheel was Kevin Berger, driving not a purpose-built race car but a production-spec electric four-door sedan, save for a set of track-focused Pirelli P Zero Trofeo RS tires. The result makes it the fastest car in its class.
Power comes from three axial-flux electric motors — two on the rear axle, one up front — all liquid-cooled and combining for a total output of 680hp (500kW). Paired with AMG's fully variable Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system and rear torque vectoring, the car sprints from 0 to 100km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
