AMG Lifts Its Four-Door GT EV Performance Onto a Taller Body: Enter the Hatchback Crossover

Mercedes-AMG has dropped a teaser shot draped in black, confirming that the GT 4-Door Coupe EV is getting a "taller-standing" sibling, with battery and power figures carried straight over from the sedan.

A teaser image wrapped in black cloth still reveals plenty: the familiar taillight silhouette, the signature LED light bar, and the three-pointed star all peek through the gaps in the cover. This is the latest drop from Mercedes-AMG's Instagram, spotlighting the taller-riding sibling to the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe EV. The caption leaves no room for doubt — born in Affalterbach, built to challenge expectations.

Judging by the silhouette, this isn't simply the sedan raised up on stilts. The current GT 4-Door runs a low, sweeping fastback line, while this new car stands noticeably taller, with a practical hatchback shape stretching out the rear — a completely different stance from the performance sedan. It looks like AMG is stuffing its track-bred DNA into a shell that leans much closer to the luxury crossover segment.

The mechanical foundation is largely expected to mirror the sedan's lineup: a 106 kWh battery pack is anticipated as the core spec, with power figures likely matching the three existing GT tiers — the range-topping GT63 at 1,150 hp, the mid-tier GT55 at 805 hp, and the entry-level GT53 at 536 hp. These numbers are industry expectations for now, not officially confirmed specs for the SUV variant.

Mercedes actually floated this idea back in December, announcing plans for a dedicated electric performance SUV using that same "born in Affalterbach" line. This teaser essentially puts a shape to that promise — the car's still under wraps, but the silhouette is already impossible to hide. AMG has not yet announced an official reveal date.
