It took 61,000 equivalent album units to claim the throne — and just one week to fall to No. 157. Miley (Miley Cyrus) scored a surprise No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200 last week with her tenth studio album, *Bass Persuades*, marking her first chart-topper since 2013's *Bangerz*. But in its second week, the album plummeted 156 spots to No. 157 — the largest week-two drop for a No. 1 album in Billboard 200 history.

The closest precedent was Bon Jovi's 2016 album *This House Is Not For Sale*, which returned to No. 1 in 2018 thanks to concert ticket bundling, then fell to No. 169 the following week. On the other extreme was Travis Scott's 2014 mixtape *Days Before Rodeo*, which unexpectedly hit No. 1 a decade after its release, only to vanish from the Billboard 200 entirely the next week. *Bass Persuades*' drop doesn't surpass either of those cases, but for a "normal release" chart-topper — no ticket bundling, no reissue boost — a 156-spot fall is unprecedented.

From Cyrus to Miley: The Name Change Came First

*Bass Persuades* dropped on September 18 via Atlantic Records, just weeks after Miley announced the album alongside two shows at the Hollywood Bowl. In that same announcement, she confirmed she'd be going forward under the stage name "Miley," dropping "Cyrus" altogether. Her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, later backed the decision, saying: "I've always just called my little girl Miley. Just... Miley."

The album follows 2025's *Something Beautiful* and features a collaboration with Model/Actriz, with much of its content centered on her relationship with fiancé Maxx Morando. In a three-star review, NME called *Bass Persuades* "leaner, more direct, and more overtly built for the dancefloor" than its predecessor, while still carrying the "weirdness" that's defined Miley's recent output. The review concluded: "Not every song convinces, but nearly two decades into her career, Cyrus has nothing left to prove — and she knows it."

Elsewhere on that week's Billboard 200, Taylor Swift reclaimed the No. 1 spot with *The Life Of A Showgirl: The Encore*, while Tinashe landed her first-ever U.S. Top 10 album with *Popstar*, debuting at No. 6.

Miley has also recently paid public tribute to her godmother Dolly Parton, who passed away at 80. She recalled that their final conversations centered on "music and transformation," writing: "I know Dolly would want me to feel all of this, write a song, and keep being strong. I've always had an angel watching over me. Always."
