Miu Miu Digs Up Its 2000s Bubble Shoe, Betting Its Next Sellout Isn't a Collab

Resurfacing alongside the spring/summer runway, the Bubble shoe pairs a boot-like silhouette with ambiguous sole lines that blend transparency and coverage, priced from $1,170. With multiple sizes reportedly sold out, it's now the next thing to watch from Miu Miu footwear after New Balance.

Miu Miu Digs Up Its 2000s Bubble Shoe, Betting Its Next Sellout Isn't a Collab

Let's cut to the chase: the Bubble shoe isn't new. Miu Miu pulled a shoe from the early 2000s out of its archives and remade it. The timing is shrewd — the New Balance collaboration just picked up the Collaboration of the Year award at the 2025 Footwear News Achievement Awards, the 530 SL is getting refreshed with new colorways ahead of summer, and Miu Miu's footwear momentum is running hot. Bringing out an in-house archival piece right now is a bet that a shoe doesn't need a collab to blow up.

The Bubble shoe first appeared in a special edition at the March Paris show, done in technical nylon with jeweled embroidery, before making its formal return at the fall 2026 show. The upper mixes leather and suede with a bit of light padding, giving it that soft, cushy feel somewhere between a sneaker and a running shoe. The laces are Miu Miu's signature ribbed technical cotton cord, with the tips dipped in a contrasting glossy lacquer — easily the most overlooked yet most deliberate detail on the entire shoe. But the real signature is the sole: the original Bubble's rounded air cushion has been redesigned to be lighter and more layered, with transparent and enclosed effects crisscrossing on the same shoe, so the contours shift as you walk instead of staying static.

Pricing comes in two tiers. The unembellished version in technical fabric and suede runs $1,170, available now in dark brown and cloud gray. The version covered in crystals and sequins goes for $2,300, with dark brown and ivory currently listed and a burgundy colorway marked "restocking soon" on the official site. According to WWD, multiple sizes across both versions have already sold out — if that holds up, it suggests the market response has been even more immediate than for the collab sneakers.

On the runway: minimalist clothes, maximalist shoes

WWD editor Joelle Diderich pointed out an interesting contradiction in her review of the fall 2026 show: the clothes leaned into a '90s-revival minimalism, almost echoing the buzz around the Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Prada coat that just sold at auction for $192,000. But the accessories operate on an entirely different logic — crystal-studded beanies, jeweled belts, and sneakers and pool slides covered in beading, aimed squarely at Gen Z's desire to be seen. The sole aesthetic of the Bubble shoe wasn't confined to just that one style either; the same show featured skinny knee-high boots and mule platforms using the same air-cushion language, extending the design logic of one archival shoe across the entire footwear lineup.

The Miu Miu x New Balance partnership is still ongoing — it's not a closed chapter. Whether the Bubble shoe earns a spot as the brand's next signature shoe remains to be seen; all we have right now are sold-out listings on the official site, with no fuller sales data to back it up yet.
