Palace Plants Its Third Seoul Flag: A "World Heritage Site" Inside Lotte Department Store

Palace Skateboards will open its third Korean store at Seoul's Lotte Department Store on August 22, with an interior drawing from a UNESCO World Heritage structure and an exclusive in-store-only collection.

Palace Plants Its Third Seoul Flag: A "World Heritage Site" Inside Lotte Department Store

Palace Skateboards is building a "World Heritage Site" inside Seoul's Lotte Department Store. The new store, dubbed Palace Jamsil, opens August 22 as the brand's third brick-and-mortar location in Korea. Landing inside Seoul's largest shopping mall, the location alone speaks volumes about the brand's ambitions for the city.

More noteworthy than the location itself is the store's architectural logic. Palace Jamsil's design draws on the structural vocabulary of a UNESCO World Heritage site, translating that historical language into a contemporary retail layout — long, clean lines paired with repeating columnar structures that create a ceremonial sense of flow. This isn't about slapping heritage motifs on the walls as decoration; it's about letting the building's own rhythm become the rhythm of the shopping experience.

This approach of "wrapping a flagship store in local landmark architecture" isn't new for Palace. The brand's first mainland China store in Shanghai was housed in the historic Zhang Garden, weaving the structure of classical Chinese courtyard architecture into the store design. The Seoul Lotte store carries forward the same logic, Korean-style: it's not just about opening a store, but letting the architecture itself tell a local story.

On opening day, Palace will drop an exclusive commemorative collection available only in-store at Jamsil, marking the ceremonial launch of this new location. Details on specific pieces, pricing, or stock quantities haven't been released — only that the release is store-exclusive, meaning anyone hoping to cop will need to make the trip to Lotte Department Store in person.
