Porsche Relearns the Art of the Shift: 911 Carrera S Gets Manual Gearbox Back, and a Rear-Window Sticker Says It All

Bowing to buyer demand, Porsche is bringing back the six-speed manual transmission option for the 2027 911 Carrera S. For about $13,000 more, you get a walnut shift knob, titanium exhaust tips, and a lineup that now stretches to seven manual-equipped 911 variants.

Porsche stuck a shift-pattern sticker on the rear window — and that little detail tells you everything about what the manual-equipped 2027 911 Carrera S is actually selling. It's not about outright speed. It's about the act of putting your hand on the lever and moving it yourself.

The reasoning from Porsche is blunt: "overwhelming customer demand." The PDK dual-clutch box is still the pick for anyone chasing the quickest acceleration, but this time Porsche is handing the choice back to drivers who believe shifting for themselves is the whole point of driving. The new MT package brings the six-speed manual — previously reserved for the manual-only Carrera T — back to the Carrera S, available on both the coupe and cabriolet, with deliveries starting for the 2027 model year.

This isn't just a lever and a clutch pedal bolted on. The MT package also brings rear-axle steering, a PASM Sport suspension that drops ride height by 11mm, the Sport Chrono package, titanium exhaust tips, and — a first for the Carrera S line — center-lock wheels. Porsche lists the curb weight at 3,327 pounds, just 11 pounds heavier than the Carrera T. The shift knob is wrapped in walnut wood, the rear window carries a printed shift diagram, and buyers can choose from 17 colors, including a deep Aubergine purple.

Power stays untouched. The 992.2-generation 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six still puts out 473 horsepower and 391 lb-ft of torque, routed through the manual gearbox to the rear axle, good for a 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 191 mph. These aren't manual-specific tuned figures — meaning the choice here trades a bit of raw efficiency for a more hands-on feel.

The trade-off comes at a price. The MT-equipped Carrera S coupe starts at $169,450, with the cabriolet at $183,350 — roughly $13,000 more than the standard model — and for now, the option is only available in North America.

With this return, the 2027 911 lineup now offers seven manual-equipped variants: the Carrera S MT coupe and cabriolet, the Carrera T coupe and cabriolet, the GT3, the GT3 with Touring Package, and the GT3 S/C.
