Wearing Architecture on the Wrist: The Geometry and Starlight of RICHARD MILLE

RICHARD MILLE's RM 16-02, RM HJ-02, and RM 07-01 Intergalactic each draw inspiration from architecture, decorative arts, and the night sky respectively. They offer an alternative way of viewing a watch: first reading the silhouette, then observing how the mechanics participate in the form.

The RM 16-02 employs a rectangular case and skeletonized movement, allowing lines to intersect like miniature architecture; the RM HJ-02 features multi-layered facets paired with colored gemstones, emphasizing dimensionality. The Intergalactic series arranges diamonds and red gold elements on a Carbon TPT carbon fiber case.

When comparing these designs, one can observe light transmission, color, and surface texture, rather than simply counting decorative elements. Like a bracelet, a watch also involves considerations of weight, size, and cuff pairing; when actually trying one on, these conditions often reveal personal preference more clearly than photographs can.
