SNL Recreates the Stillness and Soaked Drama of 'Lux': Rosalía Sings an Entire Song on Pointe

Standing still on pointe shoes for four minutes in one number and ending soaked under artificial rain in the other, Rosalía performed "Reliquia" and "Magnolias" back-to-back on "Saturday Night Live," bringing the theatrical spirit of her "Lux" album to life.

SNL Recreates the Stillness and Soaked Drama of 'Lux': Rosalía Sings an Entire Song on Pointe

Four minutes, one pair of pointe shoes, almost no movement at all — that's the image Rosalía delivered performing "Reliquia" on "Saturday Night Live." The episode, which aired October 10, was hosted by comedian Shane Gillis, with Rosalía serving as the night's musical guest. It marked her second appearance on the SNL stage, following her first in March 2022, when she performed "Chicken Teriyaki" and "La Fama."

This time she brought two songs from her 2025 album "Lux," both staged with a theatrical approach rather than the typical flashy TV performance style. "Reliquia," co-written with Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, saw Rosalía in a black ballet tutu, singing the entire song on pointe with almost no extraneous movement — until a group of dancers joined her near the end, closing out the number under strobe lights.

Later in the show, she returned to perform "Magnolias," the closing track on "Lux." This time dressed in white, she stood beneath artificial rain that began falling midway through the song, leaving her completely soaked by the end. She also made a brief cameo in a comedy sketch, appearing as a "thought bubble" tempting Gillis to abandon his mother's hospital bedside and head to Las Vegas for a Jelly Roll concert at the Sphere.

The SNL performance came right on the heels of the "Lux" world tour, which included a stop at London's O2 Arena this past May. "Lux" marks a continuation of the stylistic turn Rosalía took after her 2022 album "Motomami," moving further away from that record's collage-like sound. The new album features "Berghain," a collaboration with Björk, the two of whom also shared the stage at the BRIT Awards in Manchester this past February. In May, Rosalía won International Songwriter of the Year at the Ivor Novello Awards, where she said in her acceptance speech that she made "Lux" because she felt "the world is lacking in tenderness," calling on the industry to make more room for diverse voices.
