The Trunk-Ready Scooter That Just Became a Yellow Watch Face

Seiko 5 Sports teams up with Honda to mark the Motocompo's 45th anniversary with a globally limited run of 8,000 pieces, shipping starting September.

The Trunk-Ready Scooter That Just Became a Yellow Watch Face

The Motocompo was never your average scooter. Between 1981 and 1985, Honda engineered this folding 49cc moped to fit snugly inside the trunk of a Honda City, its yellow-and-black livery instantly recognizable on the streets of Tokyo back in the day. Now, 45 years later, that unmistakable silhouette has been shrunk down and pressed onto a 36mm watch face.

The Seiko 5 Sports x Honda Motocompo Limited Edition builds on the brand's Field series case, with a dial that faithfully recreates the Motocompo's original yellow base and black stripe scheme. Honda's classic logo sits at the 9 o'clock position, while the "AUTOMATIC" text is rendered in Honda's signature typeface. The real charm, though, lies in the hidden details: the crown is engraved with "TURN," and the nylon strap carries an "Insertion Point" label — a nod to the original scooter's "carrying point" hooks that locked it into the car body. Flip it over, and the case back reveals a red-tinted finish echoing the Motocompo's red trim, complete with a limited edition number.

Capped at 8,000 pieces worldwide, with 455 units allocated to the UK market, the watch is now available for pre-order, with official deliveries slated for September. Interested buyers can place their orders through the Seiko Boutique website, priced at £340, or roughly $456 USD.
