No More Plain Dad Shoes: SKECHERS D'LITES Marks 20 Years by Getting Dressed Up

The dad shoe that blew up in 2006 on sheer bulk is now decked out in lace mesh and metal flower charms for its 20th anniversary. Ouyang Nana shows how to wear the new drop both sweet and street.

A chunky sole paired with a lace bow — it sounds like a clash, but that's exactly the answer SKECHERS gives for D'LITES' 20th anniversary. Launched in 2006, this dad shoe made its name on a "the bulkier, the better" aesthetic: thick soles, busy panel lines, a rugged silhouette. Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, and Kim Kardashian all wore it, and it even landed on the runway at New York Fashion Week. Two decades later, the same shoe is on Ouyang Nana's feet — but this time, with a bit more girlish charm.

This year's 20th anniversary limited series keeps the signature chunky silhouette and Lace Keeper design, but adds lace mesh overlays, 3D bows, metal flower charms, and mixed-material paneling to the upper, while the colorway shifts toward soft tones like pearl white and pearlescent beige. The bows and metal charms sit right at the lacing area, while different-finish white and beige materials build up textural depth on the upper. In other words, this isn't just a straight reissue of the old shoe — it's the rugged 2000s bulk, retold through the language of adornment.

Ouyang Nana demonstrates two different styling approaches this time. The 20th anniversary limited edition is paired with a short skirt and soft-toned pieces, giving the once-bulky dad shoe a sweet, retro edge. Meanwhile, the D'LITES 6.0, released alongside it, takes a sharper street route — a more streamlined silhouette built with wave-cut leather panels and breathable mesh, dialing down the traditional dad-shoe heft a notch. The functional side isn't skipped either: Slip-ins® hands-free entry, Air-Cooled Memory Foam® insoles, and ARCH TPU support structure — retro on the outside, fully modern in how it's worn.

SKECHERS is pushing the "decoration" concept even further with the MAKE IT YOUR D'LITES customization workshop, offering shoe buckles, charms, and ribbons so everyone can personalize their own D'LITES — which, in a way, explains why the anniversary series leans into "add-your-own" elements like bows and metal flowers in the first place.

From now until September 6, purchasing the SKECHERS D'LITES 20th Anniversary Limited Series or the D'LITES 6.0 comes with a limited-edition 20th anniversary tote bag, and gives you the chance to sign up for the "Style Your Own D'LITES" dad shoe customization workshop on September 19.
