"wor$t man in america," the Mirror Companion to "WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA," Gets Tracklist and Release Date from Slayyyter
December 4th is set as the release date for "wor$t man in america," which Slayyyter has confirmed as a "brother album" to "WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA." Across its 9 tracks, the project reworks songs from the March release as "inversions" or "expansions."
What would an album's "inverted version" look like? Slayyyter's answer is an entirely new album. She's confirmed her upcoming release "wor$t man in america" as a "brother album" to "WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA," her mainstream breakthrough from this past March — the two will exist side by side as mirror counterparts.
According to the press release, some tracks on "wor$t man in america" are "inversions" of songs from the original album, while others are "expansions" — in other words, this isn't just a remaster or remix compilation, but a reworking of the same material to tell the story again from a different angle. The March release "WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA" centered on the gritty Americana atmosphere of her upbringing in St. Louis, and for now, we can only get hints of how the new album continues or flips that tone through the tracklist and already-released singles.
The new album drops December 4th via RECORDS/Columbia. Full tracklist below:
1. brand new chanel$ 2. crank 2 3. $$$ 4. nekromantik! 5. i think he's got a girl 6. hey boyyy 7. parking lot 8. perfect woman 9. *hymn*
Two of the nine tracks have already been released: "crank 2" and "brand new chanel$," the latter of which peaked at No. 98 on the Billboard Hot 100. The FADER reviewed "brand new chanel$" upon its release, describing it as a song that "carries a sense of total triumph even while articulating genuine pain."
In an interview with The FADER this past February, Slayyyter opened up about the self-doubt she felt about her music career before making "WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA." She said at the time: "When I was making this music, I thought it was all over — that sounds crazy. There were a lot of songs on Starfucker that I thought would be big pop hits. After that, I was like, 'I'm going to make another album, make it really crazy, make what I actually want to hear, and then maybe I'll go try something else.' So I just made this whole project full of crazy stuff, thinking, 'OK, this is it.' But now everyone's reaction has been so good, I'm just like, 'Oh my god.'"
Those words captured her mindset before the March album came to life, and now she's taking that same material apart and reassembling it into a mirror album — in a way, still carrying through on that original intention to "make what I actually want to hear." The album cover was provided by Slayyyter herself, with no further details on style or concept released yet.
