Spider-Man: Brand New Day Opens to $355M Domestic, Smashes $900M Worldwide in Week One

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Opens to $355M Domestic, Smashes $900M Worldwide in Week One

$168 million in a single day — a number even Avengers: Endgame never hit. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland and co-produced by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, set a new all-time opening day box office record right out of the gate. Playing across 4,487 theaters in North America, the film kept its momentum through the weekend, ultimately closing at $355 million — good enough for the second-best opening weekend of all time, trailing only Avengers: Endgame's $357 million back in 2019.

Compared to its franchise predecessor, the numbers get even more interesting: 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home opened to $260 million domestically, meaning Brand New Day has now blown past it by nearly $100 million. Overseas markets showed no signs of holding back either, contributing $572 million to push the film's global opening weekend total to $927 million.

This kind of performance also explains why the film single-handedly propelled North America's overall box office totals to a historic high — it's not being carried by any one market, but rather exploding simultaneously both domestically and abroad. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is still playing in theaters worldwide.
