"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" Rakes in $927M Over Opening Weekend, Second-Highest Global Debut Ever

Sony and Marvel Studios' latest Spider-Man installment stormed to $927 million in its opening weekend, edging close to the billion-dollar mark. Overseas markets led by China's $121 million pushed it to the second-biggest global opening of all time, trailing only "Avengers: Endgame."

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" Rakes in $927M Over Opening Weekend, Second-Highest Global Debut Ever

Three days, $927 million, the second-highest global opening weekend in box office history — that's the report card "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" just turned in. It's just one step away from crossing the billion-dollar threshold.

The numbers get more interesting when you break them down. Thursday previews alone brought in $72 million, Friday's single-day take hit $168 million, and the North American three-day total reached $355 million. Overseas, 66 markets combined for $572 million, led by China with $121 million, followed by the UK at $49 million and Mexico rounding out the top three with $38.3 million. This kind of international spread shows the film isn't riding on one market alone — it's heating up simultaneously across the globe.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Tom Holland, the film currently trails only 2019's "Avengers: Endgame," which opened at $1.2 billion, but has already left 2018's "Avengers: Infinity War" ($640 million) and 2021's "Spider-Man: No Way Home" far behind. With a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score and an A grade from CinemaScore, both critical reception and box office numbers are climbing in tandem.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is now playing in theaters worldwide, and whether it can break into the $2 billion club is the number most worth watching next.
