No reservation required—just walk in and sit down to hear an entire vinyl record from start to finish in the Lakeside space at London's Barbican. That's the angle Spiritland is taking with this latest venture. The new listening bar, called "Spiritland At The Barbican," marks the first collaboration between the two London culture brands, and the timing happens to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Spiritland's original Coal Drops Yard location.
The venue sits on the Barbican's second floor, with windows looking out onto the complex's fountains and lake views. The music selection spans jazz, classical, ambient, and electronic, with the brand saying these genres were chosen to echo the Barbican's own diverse arts programming. Every day at 5pm, there's a fixed "full album playback" session, where anything from Bach classics to Beck records might get played start to finish, mixed in with works from lesser-known up-and-coming artists.

The sound system was built by Living Voice, and the company's Kevin Scott says the goal of the setup is to capture the artistry and persuasive power of the live performance itself. "Conveying emotion is the most crucial element of music, and that's exactly what this equipment is designed to preserve and continue chasing after."
