Four people sitting on the same couch is news in itself. Talking Heads' David Byrne, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, and Jerry Harrison have rarely appeared together on camera in recent years, but this time they sat down for a panel hosted by Haim member Este Haim to promote the launch of SiriusXM's new Talking Heads Radio channel. The channel went live Thursday (October 1) Taiwan time, with the full panel conversation also dropping that same day at 12 PM ET on the channel and the SiriusXM App.

Talking Heads Radio features the four band members sharing behind-the-scenes stories in their own words, alongside deep cuts and personal favorites they've handpicked from the catalog. The channel also brought in a lineup of guest DJs to curate playlists, including U2's Adam Clayton, Foo Fighters' Nate Mendel, The Linda Lindas, TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe, and Phish's Trey Anastasio. The launch happens to coincide with the band passing the 50-year mark since forming.

During the panel, Este Haim asked the band whether they view their early work differently now. Harrison's answer pointed to a deliberate restlessness: "Every time we made something, we wanted to move forward, we wanted to change." He said the production process was different for each of their first four albums — "if you want to make something different, you can't use exactly the same method as last time." Byrne, for his part, said he doesn't look back much, but "I'm proud of everything we've done," admitting he's surprised these works have stood the test of time and keep finding new listeners.

Asked what made the band stand out back then, Weymouth credited "a sense of humor," while Frantz pointed to the "undeniably fun chemistry" between the members. He added that while Byrne was the primary lyricist and songwriter, all four put in the work on the songs: "Being in a rock band, the point is to go out and make money — we weren't against making money — but we always put the art first, and I think that's what made us unique."

This Isn't the Reunion Fans Have Been Waiting Two Decades For

The panel had a warm vibe, but the topic of a reunion performance never came up — and that's no coincidence. Frantz told NME back in 2022 that he'd tried pitching a reunion a few times, most recently about twenty years ago, only for Byrne to shut him down: "I don't want you to ask me that question again — I'm not going to talk about it." The last time all four appeared together publicly was in September 2023 at the Toronto Film Festival, marking the anniversary of the concert film *Stop Making Sense*. Asked then about reunion possibilities, Weymouth's answer was that they were "just appreciating this moment."

Byrne's stance hasn't softened either, as he told The Times last year: "Trying to practically recreate what people felt when they were in their early twenties, hearing that music for the first time? That's a wasted effort. And besides, I'm enjoying what I'm doing now." That statement, in a way, explains the nature of this panel — it's a conversation about the past, not an invitation to a future stage.

Byrne certainly has plenty on his plate these days. In September 2025, he released his latest solo album — his first studio record since 2018's *American Utopia* — featuring Hayley Williams, St. Vincent, and The Smile's Tom Skinner. To mark the album's one-year anniversary, he put out an expanded edition with four additional new tracks, including the new single "My Madness." His new book, *Sleeping Beauties*, hits shelves October 8, followed by a signing tour across the UK the following month.
