A 1909 Prewar Building Hides a Downtown Loft Inside: Central Park West Penthouse Asks $10.2 Million

A newly renovated penthouse at The Turin, a prewar building on Manhattan's Upper West Side, keeps its classic exterior but swaps in an open-plan loft layout inside. With 65 feet of frontage facing Central Park, it's asking $10.2 million.

The facade is an Italian Renaissance-style limestone shell from 1909, but inside is a fully opened-up downtown loft. That contrast is exactly what makes Penthouse 121 at The Turin worth a closer look.

Completed in 1909 by architect Albert Joseph Bodker, this 12-story prewar cooperative building on Manhattan's Upper West Side once counted the late actor William Hurt and former MoMA director Rene d'Harnoncourt among its residents. The three-bedroom penthouse now on the market features an attended lobby, ten-foot ceilings, custom built-ins, and oversized windows, with the living and dining rooms flowing together to offer 65 feet of unobstructed frontage overlooking Central Park.

"The bones are classic Central Park West prewar, but the way you live in it is inspired by a downtown loft," Corcoran agent Steven A. Cohen, who is handling the listing, told Robb Report. The renovation was led by James Harb Architects, with wood flooring running from the living room all the way to the study—separated only by a two-step change in elevation. The kitchen island floats at the center of the space, outfitted with Bulthaup cabinetry, a six-burner Wolf range, and a Viking refrigerator, alongside a walk-in pantry.

The living room's wood-framed doors slide open completely, leading to a media room and an office that can double as a guest room. On either side of the entryway are two additional suites, with the Manhattan skyline visible right outside the windows. The primary bedroom is accessed via its own private entry hall and features a 22-foot windowed dressing room, plus a marble bathroom complete with radiant floor heating and Lefroy Brooks fixtures. The unit also includes a laundry room and separate storage space, and residents have access to the building's gym, bike room, and a rooftop terrace with a full outdoor kitchen.

This penthouse first hit the market in March 2025 with an asking price of $9.99 million, then sold that September for roughly $300,000 less. It was relisted this past July, with the asking price bumped up to $10.25 million.
