TWICE's Second Departure: Chaeyoung Stays with the Group, Launches New Project "LIL FANTASY"
Following Dahyun, TWICE's rap powerhouse Chaeyoung has also confirmed her contract termination with JYP via a handwritten letter—but she stressed the group won't be affected, while teasing her personal music project "LIL FANTASY."
The letter wasn't addressed to the company—it was written for ONCE. Chaeyoung chose to post a handwritten letter on Instagram, opening with a shoutout to "ONCE, who has been by my side like family," before even mentioning the word "contract termination." That order says everything: what she's really addressing isn't a contract, but a 14-year relationship.
Following member Dahyun's announcement the day before that she'd parted ways with JYP Entertainment, Chaeyoung has become the second TWICE member to confirm her departure from the company. In her letter, she mentioned wanting to "step into a new chapter of my life," revealing for the first time a name the world hadn't heard before—LIL FANTASY, which she described as "a world where I can freely explore and create music that's truly my own." The letter didn't clarify whether this refers to an album, a label, or a broader personal project—only that it ties into Chaeyoung's upcoming solo music direction.
Rather than dwelling on "leaving," Chaeyoung spent far more effort explaining what "won't change." She wrote, "TWICE will not be affected by this in any way," emphasizing that everything she has today was built on her journey as a TWICE member, adding "TWICE will always be my roots." She also thanked JYP staff and Team TWICE for 14 years of support, specifically singling out her fellow members as her "biggest supporters."
At the end of the letter, Chaeyoung split herself into two identities, side by side: "Chaeyoung of TWICE" and "Chaeyoung of LIL FANTASY," promising that both sides of her would keep making music that means something to fans. She called it "a brand new challenge" that will push her "to keep growing—into a better person, and a better artist."
Compared to Dahyun's announcement of leaving the company, the focus of Chaeyoung's reveal is clearly less about "leaving" and more about "gaining a new identity." No further official details have been given on what comes next for either the group or her solo project.
