Microsoft Confirms Battlefield 6 Joins Game Pass Day One on October 13, Dismisses Ultimate Tier Overhaul Rumors

In its early-October Game Pass update, Microsoft confirmed that Battlefield 6 will be available on the service starting launch day, while several titles, including Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, are scheduled to exit the catalog on October 15.

Microsoft Confirms Battlefield 6 Joins Game Pass Day One on October 13, Dismisses Ultimate Tier Overhaul Rumors

On one hand, EA's flagship shooter Battlefield 6 is confirmed to be playable on Xbox Game Pass starting its very launch day, October 13. On the other, rumors have been swirling that the Ultimate tier is about to drop day-one releases and cloud gaming features. This month, Microsoft chose to answer those doubts with an actual lineup.

According to the lineup announced on Microsoft's official blog, three titles have already gone live in the first half of October: Minecraft Dungeons 2 is now available for Ultimate and PC subscribers, Keeper—previously Ultimate-exclusive—has been expanded to the Premium tier, and Gears Of War: E-Day is likewise open to both Ultimate and PC players.

The pace picks up considerably from here. October 8 brings Echo Weaver, Forever Ago, and Neon Abyss 2 all at once, with Neon Abyss 2 being one of the few titles available across all three tiers—Ultimate, Premium, and PC. October 13 marks the biggest wave of the month: Battlefield 6, Deep Dish Dungeon, and Valor Mortis all launch simultaneously, with Battlefield 6 joining the subscription service right on its release date—meaning players won't need to buy it separately to experience EA's big annual title on day one. October 15 adds Blue's Happy Snaps and Chained Beasts, while October 16 brings Beyond These Stars, both available to Ultimate and PC subscribers.

Of course, what comes in must go out. Nine games—including A Plague Tale: Requiem and last year's breakout hit Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—will leave the service on October 15. The other seven departing titles are Crime Scene Cleaner, Donut County, Evil West, Nova Roma, Pacific Drive, Superball, and The Casting of Frank Stone. Players hoping to finish these games while still subscribed only have until mid-month.

The timing of this lineup announcement doesn't seem coincidental. Last month, reports surfaced claiming Microsoft was planning major changes to its priciest Ultimate tier, including scrapping cloud gaming and ending the "play day-one releases" perk. In response, a Microsoft spokesperson told Forbes: "We're continuously testing different combinations of Game Pass offerings to see what works best for players in different markets, but we have nothing to announce today, and there are no finalized plans. The previously announced Game Pass Ultimate day-one titles remain unchanged." With Battlefield 6 now confirmed for launch-day availability, Microsoft has effectively backed up that statement with action.

Last month, Xbox Game Pass added 19 titles—including Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and RuneScape: Wilds—while removing 18 others. This kind of rapid lineup turnover has become the norm for subscription platforms.
