PoloFest Tokyo puts vintage culture on display: 17 dealers, about 10,000 pieces and the art of repair

Why put a worn Polo garment in a frame? PoloFest, held in Tokyo’s Harajuku from October 23–25, 2026, places Ralph Lauren’s archives alongside a vintage market and conversations with its community. Rather than concentrating on one new collection, it offers a way to look at how different generations collect, wear and repair clothing.

Tokyo is the first stop. The market beside the exhibition brings together 17 Japanese and international vintage dealers and approximately 10,000 items. The anniversaries need separating: 2026 marks 50 years in Japan, while the brand’s 60th anniversary falls in 2027. These dates describe this event; the photographs do not establish matching stock elsewhere.

Four categories, several interpretations of one label

The market is arranged around English Tweed, Polo Country, Polo Sport and Outdoorsman. English Tweed connects equestrian influences with British tailoring; Polo Country explores western and country references; Polo Sport emphasizes sportswear; and Outdoorsman includes sailing and ski clothing. The categories provide an entry point through personal style, even for visitors unfamiliar with specific production years.

Participating dealers include Japan’s REFLEX and SAFARI, alongside collectors such as THOROUGHBRED NEW YORK. Jackets, checked shirts, sportswear and accessories can express different periods and uses under the same label. Approximately 10,000 refers to the overall market, rather than each dealer’s inventory, and does not guarantee a particular size, color or design.

Patches and sashiko make time visible

BROWN TABBY WORKS, Sasaki Yohinten and SASHIKO GALS respond to Polo garments through repair and remaking. The resulting one-off pieces are displayed with lottery-sale applications during the event, a different arrangement from replenishable retail stock. Stitching, patches and their relationship with the original garment are part of what there is to examine.

Exhibition photographs show framed denim, cable knitwear, shirts and trousers, with repairs and motifs left visible. For an everyday wardrobe, the display suggests that signs of wear need not automatically mean replacement: repair can create another appearance. Photographs alone, however, cannot establish the condition or remaining wearable life of every individual item.

Japan’s Polo culture comes from wearing and exchanging ideas

Japan’s role as the first host connects with its long-standing American-traditional styling and vintage culture. The brand links its arrival in Japan in 1976 with collectors’ interest in collegiate clothing, British tailoring, classic Americana and beautifully used objects. The contrasting wardrobes illustrate how one label can become many individual ways of dressing.

The Tokyo event dates are October 23–25 at the Yodobashi J6 Building, officially listed at 6-35-6 Jingumae, Shibuya. Entry during the event is free with advance reservation, while talks have separate booking arrangements. Once the dates have passed, old admission and lottery information should not be treated as still open. Future editions need fresh checks of city, dates and participation conditions.

Questions and answers

Is PoloFest Tokyo only a shopping event?

No. It combines archives, a vintage market, repaired and remade pieces, and talks about the communities shaping Polo style.

What do 17 dealers and about 10,000 items mean?

They describe the participating vintage dealers and the overall market scale, not 10,000 pieces per shop or guaranteed stock in a particular size.

Is 2026 Ralph Lauren’s 60th anniversary?

No. The Japan milestone is 50 years in 2026; the founding anniversary reaches 60 years in 2027. PoloFest Tokyo takes place October 23–25, 2026.
