Inside Eight Sleep's Pod 6: 18 Sensors, One New Single Bed, Same Old Subscription
Eight Sleep's latest smart mattress system boosts sensor count from two to eighteen and introduces a standalone single-size option. Prices remain between $2,000 and $3,000, with the monthly subscription still required.
A mattress accessory with sensor count jumping from 2 to 18 — that's the answer Eight Sleep is delivering this time. The company announced the launch of Pod 6, describing it as built "from the ground up" and calling it the brand's "most significant hardware launch" to date.
Pod 6's core architecture remains the water-based thermoregulation system: a hub pumps temperature-controlled water into the mattress cover to adjust body-facing temperature. This time the hub has been redesigned with a smaller footprint, small enough to fit under most bed frames. Eight Sleep says Pod 6 has the fastest temperature response of any product in its lineup, adjusting to night sweats or chills about 20% faster than the previous-generation Pod 5.
The real spec leap is in sensor count. Pod 5 came with just 2 biometric sensors, while Pod 6 expands that to 18 — tracking heart rate, respiratory rate, heart rate variability, snoring, and sleep stages without requiring any wearable device, with data synced to a dedicated app. This sensor data also feeds the AI engine and Autopilot system, letting the mattress cover automatically adjust based on sleep stage and ambient temperature. Eight Sleep says the sensor system can distinguish between two people sleeping together, and can even separate a pet's signals from those of the human user.
Another change is the addition of a single-size version. It shares the same features as the dual version, with the only difference being the removal of dual-zone temperature control — in other words, the single version drops the setup where two people each set their own temperature. The upside is a lower price, and this marks the first time Eight Sleep has created a dedicated product line for solo sleepers.
Price is the real barrier to entry for this system. Even the "entry-level" single version starts at $2,000, and depending on mattress size, can climb as high as $3,000. And no matter which model you choose, you're required to subscribe to the Autopilot service on top of that, running $17 to $25 per month. Worth noting: Pod 6 isn't actually a mattress — it's a smart sleep system consisting of a hub and mattress cover — yet it carries a mattress-level price tag. It's available for purchase now.
