G-SHOCK’s MR-G 30th-anniversary pair brings Hiroto Rakusho’s metal leaf to Taiwan, with sales planned for early November

Thirty years after MR-G debuted in 1996, G-SHOCK is marking the anniversary through metal leaf. Japanese artist Hiroto Rakusho’s Haruka, created for the series, provides the starting point for two limited watches: MRG-B2100HR-1A and MRG-B2100HS-9A. Casio Taiwan’s October 29, 2026 information plans limited sales at designated MR-G retailers in early November, rather than specifying an exact launch day.

The HR-1A uses platinum leaf, with 800 pieces worldwide and a Taiwan suggested price of NT$230,000. The HS-9A uses gold leaf, with 150 worldwide at NT$470,000. Global production is not a Taiwan allocation, and these are individual prices, not a two-watch set. Local stock and distribution need confirmation from designated retailers, rather than calculation from worldwide totals.

Leaf within the latticework dial, beyond a change of hands

Both use the MRG-B2100’s kumiko-style latticework dial to express Haruka’s sense of time through a layered structure. Rakusho participates in leaf application and final finishing. The brand describes individual variations in texture and subtle layers from the manual work. Cool platinum and warmer gold are fundamental differences, rather than simply differently colored hands on an identical dial.

Both casebacks carry MR-G 30TH lettering and individual limited-edition numbers, with anniversary packaging. The HS-9A additionally receives a dedicated gold-leaf-decorated box and Rakusho’s handwritten signature; that detail should not be applied to the HR-1A. Born in Kyoto’s Nishijin district, Rakusho learned metal-leaf techniques from his father and established the Hiroto Rakusho brand in 2002, extending the craft across creative formats.

Laser-created textures and a 27-part bezel

Beyond the dial leaf, ultrashort-pulse lasers create fine textures on the bezel and bracelet. Their interaction with light and viewing angle produces changing tones, described by the brand as structural color. The intention is to extend the artwork’s shifting light across the watch. This surface effect should be distinguished from the platinum or gold leaf itself; one photographic angle does not establish a permanently fixed color.

Both are made at Yamagata Casio in Japan. The upper bezel uses COBARION, the bracelet DAT55G, and the case, back, buttons and crown Ti64 titanium, alongside DLC coating. The bezel comprises 27 separate components, allowing individual polishing before assembly with the Multi-Guard protective structure and cushioning. Materials, surface work and assembly are the engineering elements alongside the leaf craft.

Time synchronization and practical functions remain; Taiwan dates stay provisional

Both include Tough Solar charging, MULTIBAND 6 radio timekeeping and Mobile Link. Bluetooth pairing with a smartphone enables time adjustment through CASIO WATCHES. The release also lists sapphire crystal, 200-meter water resistance, shock resistance, alarm and stopwatch. The artistic collaboration therefore sits alongside everyday watch functions, without implying extra capabilities not listed for the editions.

Taiwan’s confirmed wording is planned early November sales at designated MR-G retailers. The material supplies no store-by-store allocation, reservation method or complete delivery date. Compare platinum leaf, 800 worldwide and NT$230,000 for HR-1A against gold leaf, 150 worldwide, NT$470,000 and the signed special box for HS-9A. Limited numbers and handmade differences are product conditions, not a basis for predictions about resale values or investment returns.
