Google Debuts Googlebook Laptop Line, Preorders Start Sept. 21 with Gemini Intelligence Front and Center

Wiggle the cursor and it turns into something called the "Magic Pointer"—sounds like a gadget out of a tokusatsu show, but it's actually one of the first features to leak out about Google's new laptop brand, Googlebook. According to information obtained by 9to5Google, Google has notified users who previously signed up for update alerts that preorders will open at 9 a.m. ET on September 21, a date that's also listed on the official Googlebook website.

Googlebook is the premium laptop lineup Google announced back in May, and the company hasn't said much about it since. What's confirmed now is that these laptops will run an Android-based version of ChromeOS, with longtime Chromebook makers Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo all set to release corresponding models. Gemini Intelligence sits at the core of the OS.

Here's how the Magic Pointer works: point the cursor at something on screen, and the system instantly surfaces actionable suggestions—essentially turning the cursor itself into a contextual gateway. On top of that, Googlebook lets users create custom widgets, features a "glowbar" light strip on the lid, and deeply integrates with Android phones.

Google has yet to reveal pricing, full specs, or how the models differ across manufacturers—details expected to surface around the time preorders go live.
